I was admitted to the practice of law in Colorado and the U.S. District Court since October of 1975. I started as an attorney in Littleton Colorado and then moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado in May of 1976. I worked for about one year for Martin G. Dumont and then open my own office in July of 1977. I have been in private practice since that time. In 1980, I was appointed as the first attorney judge when Glenwood Springs’ Municipal Court became a Court of Record. I served in that capacity for six months and became City Attorney in June of 1980 and served as City Attorney until October of 1984. Since 1984 I have continued my private practice in Glenwood Springs. I completed a forty hour mediation training course with CDR Associates of Boulder, Colorado in 1995 and began work as a mediator shortly thereafter.

In 2017, I was appointed as a mediator in Mesa County, Colorado by the State of Colorado Office of Dispute Resolution and I am beginning to shift the emphasis of my work from litigation to mediation and conduct mediations in family law areas, complex civil litigation matters, construction disputes, landlord tenant matters, HOA matters and probate matters

During my forty plus years of private practice, I have represented persons in criminal and civil matters but since the late 1990’s have been primarily engaged in a general civil practice of law involving complex trial work, concentrated in contract and construction litigation, mechanics liens, residential and commercial real estate matters, homeowner association litigation, and family law. I also represent clients in the purchase and sale of businesses, and real estate transactions, landlord tenant matters and represent several local Homeowner’s Associations. I also have been providing elder law and simple estate planning services during this time.

My professional career has included serving as the President of the Ninth Judicial District Bar President from 1985 to 1986. I have also served on the Colorado Bar Association’s Ethics Committee and Executive Council for General/Small Firm Section. I was a founding member, chairperson and attorney advisor of Garfield Legal Services which is now known as Alpine Legal Services. I served as a Board Member and Chairperson of Colorado Rural Legal Services. I received several Bar related awards including the Garfield County Pro Bono Award and the Sixth Annual Colorado Bar Association Donald W. Hoagland Award for outstanding and dedicated leadership in the development of legal services to the poor.

I have served on several local non profit boards including the Garfield County Social Services’ Child Protection Team and the Alternate Placement Team and have served in the past and presently am a member and board chairperson of Mountain Valley Development Services. I have also provided volunteer attorney services for the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts. I have also been a coach since 2000 and head coach since 2009 of the Glenwood Springs High School Mock Trial program. During this time, the program has won the State Championship a record seven times.

I also served as a member and chairperson on the Glenwood Springs Downtown Development Authority from 2008 to 2016. I am currently a member of the City of Glenwood Springs’ Financial Advisory Board.
