Course Objectives-The learner will
Gain self -awareness and understand biases and stereotypes associated with aging
Become acquainted with biological, psychological, sociological, spiritual aspects of aging
Reflect on the demographics of the aging population
Comprehend the common needs, interests and issues of seniors and family members
Differentiate elder care dispute resolution roles and processes from other forms of ADR
Realize Elder rights and legal terminology and options
Manage of ethical dilemmas as diminished capacity and elder abuse and neglect issues
Become familiar with community resources for aging
Practice mediating and managing elder care scenarios
Monica Lichtenberger, trainer, has experience and expertise in nursing and dispute resolution. She holds a Masters Degree in Management and a UCCS Gerontology Certificate. Monica worked eleven years in acute care as a registered nurse and managed health care for inter-city seniors. She ministered for three years to seniors in homes and long-term care facilities. Additionally, she spent 3 years working with home care and hospice. Since 1997, she worked as a mediator, conflict coach and trainer, working through issues with families and employees. Monica has four years experience as a Colorado State certified ombudsman, advocating for seniors in licensed long-term care facilities. She has specialized training and experience in elder care mediation and workplace age discrimination. She has mediated cases originating within the Fourth Judicial District and Adult Protective Services as well as self-referrals from the general public at large. Monica also has served on the national Bar Association Elder Care Abuse Task Force for 2 years.
