- ?Type of work for Volunteers/Interns: Through restorative justice, youth repair the harm done by their criminal actions in ways that are meaningful to themselves, their family, the victim, and the community. Offenders meet with the victims of their crimes, or with a community member representing the victim’s “voice.” Trained volunteers facilitate the restorative justice sessions, provide parent-teen mediation, and represent the community on the panel of speakers, in the dialogue circles, and the conferencing sessions. Volunteers bring a diversity of backgrounds and experience, including mediation, counseling, law, and street knowledge. With limited staff, there are opportunities for interns to have valuable experiences, based on their expertise and learning objectives. Responsibilities may include developing a parent-teen advisory council, serving as court liaison, designing a public relations campaign, assisting with fund development, and connecting with merchants and businesses.
