Our 3-day Elder Mediation Training is designed for trained mediators who are interested in expanding their mediation services to include older adults and their families. We build on your prior knowledge and skills and enhance your knowledge base in eldercare services and dispute resolution involving multiple parties and multiple/intertwined issues. Our interactive training begins with how elder mediation differs from family/divorce and other areas of mediation. We discuss intergenerational family dynamics and describe who typically tries to resolve these “squabbles”. We include legal and financial issues, including guardianship, power of attorney, end-of-life issues and financial planning. An important component of elder mediation is the capacity to mediate and appropriate accommodations. Other subjects include tips for good intakes, ethical considerations, ageism, elder abuse, and marketing elder mediation.
Participants who do NOT already have a good base of eldercare knowledge are encouraged to attend our Eldercare Essentials class on Friday, February 24, 2012
This class meets the Elder Care and Elder Family Decision-Making Mediation: Training Objectives as Prepared by the ACR Section on Elder Decision-Making and Conflict Resolution Committee on Training Standards
