SB12-2 the Civil Unions Bill sponsored in the Colorado Senate by Senator Pat Steadman will authorize any two unmarried consenting adults, regardless of gender to enter into a civil union. And it also will require that the same processes in Colorado law for the dissolution, legal separation and declaration of invalidity of marriage will apply to civil unions. This will allow judges to refer to mediation civil union dissolution in the same manner the courts refer marriage dissolution cases to mediation, as specified in the Colorado Dispute Resolution Act.
Therefore be it resolved that the Board of Directors of The Mediation Association of Colorado:
Endorse and support SB12-02, the Civil Unions Bill, sponsored by Senator Steadman and encourage members to voice their opinion to Colorado legislators and the Governor on this legislation.
